The Silver Maple

The silver maple tree

surprised me today,

when I revisited, after

long years away.

Once spindly and young,

now it's shaggy-barked,

and dominates all

the backyard.

Twin arms held aloft,

victorious over my

years of neglect, is it

a welcome or a rebuke?
