Falling Leaves, Falling Lives

Many leaves
drop
straight
down,
pile up
brown,
obscured,
unobserved,
crumbled
underfoot.

Some leaves
ride updrafts,
veined kites
caught
in brief flight,
then dashed
wedged,
torn,
alone.

A few lives
soar
above,
flicker light,
flash color,
hover
alight.
